Muhammed Majeed, Ph.D
FOUNDER & CHAIRMAN

Dr. Muhammed Majeed, a native of Kerala, India, possesses an impressive career spanning over 45 years in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, molecular biology, nutritional, and cosmetic industries.

Having obtained his Pharmacy degree from Kerala University, Dr. Majeed ventured to the United States in 1975. He pursued further studies, earning a Master’s degree from Long Island University, New York, and a Ph.D. from St. John’s University, New York, specializing in Industrial Pharmacy.

During his professional journey, Dr. Majeed amassed valuable research experience over 15 years, holding increasingly responsible positions at esteemed organizations such as Pfizer Inc., Carter-Wallace, and Paco Research.

In 1988, Dr. Majeed founded Sabinsa Corporation, a research-oriented nutraceutical ingredients company. Although transitioning from a researcher to an ingredients manufacturer presented significant challenges, Dr. Majeed triumphed and pioneered numerous scientifically supported, safe, and beneficial products that have become industry standards. Sabinsa, based in New Jersey, currently employs over 60 dedicated professionals.

 

In 1991, Dr. Majeed established Sami Labs Ltd, a research group located in Bangalore, India, to complement and expand Sabinsa’s work in the United States. Today, Sami Labs comprises over 500 talented individuals engaged in the manufacturing, global marketing of nutraceuticals and fine chemicals, and cutting-edge research.

Dr. Majeed’s visionary products, developed through Sami Labs’ research, have garnered recognition from the Indian Government, the US Nutraceuticals industry, and secured patents worldwide. Sami Labs was honored with the National Award for quality products in the field of Basic Drugs by the President of India, who acknowledged both quality and innovation as pivotal factors in this achievement. Additionally, Sami Labs pioneered the research and marketing of numerous phytonutrients derived from herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda, uncovering a multitude of applications previously unknown. The company received accolades from the Spices Board of India, one for establishing a market for Garcinia Cambogia and another for its exceptional export performance.

Dr. Majeed’s remarkable work and progress have been recognized by various Indian-American groups, and he was bestowed with the Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1996 by the National Federation of Asian Americans.

In 1997, Sabinsa Corporation was ranked as America’s 90th fastest-growing company by INC. Magazine. Furthermore, it secured the 7th position among New Jersey’s fastest-growing technology-based companies in the New Jersey Fast 50 rankings.

In early 1999, Sami Labs initiated a division called Sami Spices, headquartered in Cochin, India, with a focus on promoting the procurement and marketing of spices.
